Riccardo Chailly Milan Tickets 2026–2027 – Teatro alla Scala
Riccardo Chailly conducts seven concerts at Teatro alla Scala between November 2026 and March 2027, across three different programmes: Bruckner's Ninth Symphony, a Shostakovich and Dvořák programme, and Bach's St John Passion. Every concert begins at 8:00 PM.
The dates are November 16, 17 and 20, 2026; January 18, 2027; and March 23, 24 and 26, 2027.
Each programme is performed separately, so the date decides the music. Browse available Riccardo Chailly tickets for La Scala, compare the categories listed for the date you want and choose your programme.
Bruckner's Ninth Symphony – November 2026
The nearest of these concerts brings Chailly to the podium of the Filarmonica della Scala for Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 in D minor, on Monday, November 16; Tuesday, November 17; and Friday, November 20, 2026, all at 8:00 PM.
Bruckner's Ninth Symphony occupies a distinctive place in the late-Romantic orchestral repertoire. Dedicated to God, the composition remained unfinished at the composer's death in 1896 and has traditionally been performed in its three-movement form, ending with the monumental Adagio.
For these Milan concerts, Chailly presents a version incorporating a reconstructed fourth movement, based on surviving musical material. The reconstruction is credited to Nicola Samale, John A. Phillips, Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs and Giuseppe Mazzuca, with a subsequent revision by Phillips.
This approach gives audiences an opportunity to hear the symphony in an expanded form, exploring the musical architecture that Bruckner had envisaged for his final orchestral work.
The Filarmonica della Scala, founded in 1982 by Claudio Abbado and the musicians of Teatro alla Scala, provides the orchestral forces for these performances.
Shostakovich and Dvořák – January 18, 2027
On Monday, January 18, 2027 at 8:00 PM, Chailly conducts the Filarmonica della Scala with cellist Gautier Capuçon: Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 2 and Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World.
This date is a benefit concert for the Fondazione De Marchi. It is the only programme of the three that pairs a concerto soloist with a symphony, and the only single-date programme in the series.
Bach's St John Passion – March 2027
Chailly returns in spring for Johann Sebastian Bach's St John Passion, BWV 245, with the Orchestra and Chorus of Teatro alla Scala, on Tuesday, March 23; Wednesday, March 24; and Friday, March 26, 2027, all at 8:00 PM.
First performed in Leipzig in 1724, Bach's Johannes-Passion is one of the defining sacred works of the Baroque era. Based on the Gospel of John, it recounts the arrest, trial, crucifixion and burial of Jesus through a combination of biblical narration, expressive arias, chorales and dramatic choral passages.
The cast brings together Mark Padmore as the Evangelist and Peter Harvey as Jesus, with Grace Davidson, Anke Vondung, Manuel Günther and Peter Mattei. The Teatro alla Scala Chorus is prepared by chorus master Alberto Malazzi.
Unlike the purely orchestral Bruckner and January concerts, these March performances put Chailly's work with vocal soloists, chorus and orchestra at the centre.
Riccardo Chailly and Teatro alla Scala
Riccardo Chailly has enjoyed a long artistic relationship with Milan and Teatro alla Scala, where he served as Music Director from 2015 to 2026.
This season opened with two concerts that have already taken place: a Sibelius and Prokofiev programme in October 2026, and Verdi's Messa da Requiem on October 30, 2026, with Anna Netrebko, Caterina Piva, Antonio Poli and Michele Pertusi.
Born in Milan, he has established an international conducting career through collaborations with leading European orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
His recorded repertoire includes significant interpretations of the symphonies of Bruckner, Mahler and Beethoven, alongside opera and works by Italian composers.
The three programmes that remain reflect different sides of that repertoire: a large-scale late-Romantic symphony, a concerto pairing, and a Baroque Passion.
Classical Music at Teatro alla Scala in Milan
Located on Piazza della Scala in central Milan, Teatro alla Scala is one of the world's most celebrated opera houses and an important international venue for symphonic music.
Opened in 1778, the theatre has hosted many of the most influential conductors and performers in classical music history. Alongside its renowned opera and ballet productions, La Scala presents symphonic seasons featuring its own orchestra, the Filarmonica della Scala and visiting international ensembles.
Its historic auditorium provides an exceptional setting for both the orchestral scale of Bruckner's Ninth Symphony and the vocal and instrumental detail of Bach's St John Passion.
