Why see Giselle live
Giselle is the crown jewel of Romantic ballet, a haunting tale of love, betrayal and forgiveness set to Adolphe Adam's exquisitely lyrical score. The first act bursts with rustic warmth before the famous second act descends into the moonlit world of the Wilis, the ghostly brides whose chilling corps de ballet is among the most ethereal sequences in all of dance. To watch Giselle's mad scene and her spectral pas de deux performed live is to witness pure dramatic poetry, where technical mastery dissolves into raw emotion.
Teatro alla Scala
Few stages carry the prestige of Teatro alla Scala, Milan's legendary opera house and a temple of ballet since its eighteenth-century opening. Beneath its gilded tiers and glittering central chandelier, the resident company brings a refined Italian elegance to the Romantic repertoire. For an evening of Giselle, La Scala's storied acoustics let Adam's score breathe, while the intimacy between the historic auditorium and the stage makes every arabesque and every shimmering line of the Wilis feel breathtakingly close.
