Macbeth Opera Milan 2027
Experience Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, presented from 4 to 22 May 2027. This new Teatro alla Scala production brings one of Verdi’s darkest and most dramatic operas to one of the world’s most prestigious opera houses.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedy, Macbeth is an opera in four acts with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and Andrea Maffei. It tells a story of ambition, prophecy, guilt and political violence, following Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as their desire for power leads them into a world of fear, bloodshed and psychological collapse.
For audiences searching for Macbeth opera tickets in Milan, this production offers the opportunity to experience Verdi’s powerful musical vision of Shakespeare at Teatro alla Scala. The score combines dramatic intensity, dark orchestral colour, striking choral writing and unforgettable vocal scenes, making Macbeth one of the essential works of the Italian operatic repertoire.
The 2027 performances are conducted by Myung-Whun Chung, leading the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra and Chorus. The staging is by Barrie Kosky, one of today’s most influential opera directors, with sets by Klaus Grünberg, costumes and lighting by Klaus Bruns, and dramaturgy by Claus Spahn.
This production presents Macbeth’s world as a dark and haunted space, where the characters appear isolated within an atmosphere of fear, ambition and destiny. Barrie Kosky’s vision places the focus on the psychological force of the drama, allowing Verdi’s music and Shakespeare’s tragic story to dominate the stage.
The cast features Luca Salsi and Fabián Veloz as Macbeth, Anastasia Bartoli and Marta Torbidoni as Lady Macbeth, René Pape and Simon Lim as Banco, and Francesco Meli and Antonio Poli as Macduff. With a major international cast and a new production at La Scala, this is one of the most anticipated opera events in Milan’s 2027 season.
Attending Macbeth Opera at Teatro alla Scala is an excellent choice for visitors to Milan looking for a dramatic and intense opera experience. With its powerful music, dark atmosphere and unforgettable characters, Verdi’s Macbeth offers a remarkable evening of theatre and opera in the heart of Milan.
